Divorce cases are going higher at alarming rate within communities of Torit of Eastern Equatoria State.
According to Radio Emmanuel, Women Agency for Progress Organization or WAPO Executive Director Flora Sebit said women and girls are vulnerable because their rights have not been keenly observed.
She said many women have not been able to raise their concerns over rape, forced and early marriage and other GBV related issues.
‘We know women and girls are always venerable within the community they are getting a lot of challenges especially in Torit the issues of divorce is going high and that comes because of men are touch√© ring their women you just find that women are coming up and raising their concern because they are having a lot of challenges I the community that is why they are raising their concern and the issue of violence rape cases and GBV general is within the community is very high with all this challenges you get women sometimes don’t come up to raise such challenges’, the activist said.
WAPO Executive Director called for equal rights between men and women for the development of the community.
She urges communities to talk and report gender-based violence related cases to the authority so that perpetrators can be brought to book.
‘We must consider the rights of different children in the community whether boys or girls to built a family it is not an easy thing we must know that all of us have right a man and a woman a boy and a girl has right to participate to get some of the required needs within the family and also I wanted to talk about the issue to the community about if your child have been rape don’t take it for granted take it as a serious case and act on it don’t just leave it like that because it will backfire’, the activist elaborated.
The speaker made the remarks during a round table discussion by Women Agency for Progress Organization at Torit Civic Engagement Center on Thursday.
