The Youth of Holy Family Parish in Rumbek together with pears from St. Theresa’s Parish and Holy Cross Centre began activities on Saturday at the newly established Diocesan Youth Centre.

Fr. John Mathiang Machol, who is the Diocesan Youth Secretary, told Good News Radio that the meeting was the first youth gathering at the centre since it was officially opened in December.

He asked the youth to feel welcome at their centre.

Sr. Anne Wamalwa of the Evangelizing Sisters of Mary works with the Holy Family Parish youth. She said the day was meant for the youth to relax after many parish activities during the past weeks.

She added that the centre will help the youth to recognize and develop their talents.

Ben Makoi, Chairperson of the Holy Family Parish Youth, expressed joy for the activities at the new centre, adding that the place will enable youth to come together and discuss their programmes.

The Youth Centre was officially opened by Bishop Caesar Mazzolari of Rumbek on December 16, 2010.

There were up to 60 youth taking part in the first activities at the centre on Saturday.
