Massive deforestation in the area leads to changes in weather pattern, regrets Egidio Taban Emmanuel, Plantation Manager of National Forestry Reserve in Yei.

He tells Radio Easter that people destroy forests by cutting down trees, leading to delay in rainfall.

The manager says rainfall usually begins in February, but until April now it has not started because big trees which could attract rain have been cut down.

Emmanuel encourages everybody leaving in the area to value both natural and artificial trees because they contribute a lot especially in rain attraction.

The Plantation Manager warns against mismanagement of forest which affects everyone.

He says the government had plans for massive aforestation which was interrupted by the crisis, but believes that they will be able to provide seedlings freely to citizens to plant.

Emmanuel encourages the Agriculture Commissioner of Forests in all counties to sensitize the people to plant trees to make the towns green.

He urges the citizens to respect and abide by the laws passed by the forestry department.

The manager calls on the people to begin conserving the environment by planting their own trees to avoid dependence on natural forest.

The speaker made the remarks to Radio Easter on Thursday in Yei.
