South Sudan still free of Covid-19, official assures public

The High-Level Taskforce Committee assures public that South Sudan still have zero case of coronavirus or COVID-19.
 
The undersecretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr Makur Matur Koriom read a statement released by the deputy head of the High-Level Taskforce committee Dr Riek Machar that all the eighteen samples collected by health ministry since the outbreak were negative by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).
 
The Committee urges citizens to ignore rumours circulating on social media about an outbreak in the country.
 
‘People should not panic by rumours being spread by social media and local media’, the statement reads.
 
The committee assure their readiness with trained rapid response teams and front-line health workers to respond in case of any possible case.
 
Screening points have been established at border crossings, active surveillance at community and health facilities, and community awareness are ongoing with support of partners.
 
The public are asked to cooperate with the health guidelines issued by the committee on covid-19 as preventive measures and to report any suspected case experiencing symptoms of covid-19 by calling toll-free hotline 6666.
 
South Sudan is the only East African country still free from the deadly Covid-19.
