The east African Community or EAC Health Ministers urge partners States to follow strict screening procedures at all border points

EAC Affairs and Health Ministers on Wednesday met and resolved that all Partner States should continue implement strict screening procedures at all border points and quarantining all travelers for 14 days.

The ministers resolved to maintain suspension of EAC regional face-to-face meetings.

They urged Organs and institutions to utilize video-conferences, webinars and skype calls for holding such meetings until the situation has been contained.

The ministers directed all Partner States to apply the multilayer mechanism to avoid some loopholes, such as transit passengers and facilitate free movements of goods and services in the region;

They said all Partner States should ensure that trucks carrying goods have only 2 – 3 crew members to facilitate smooth border crossing in the region;

They have to make sure if crews are found to be at high risk or positive for COVID-19, the truck will be decontaminated before it is allowed to continue to its final destination and the crew will be quarantined for 14 days.
