EAC deliberates to prevent and stop further spread of corona virus

The East African Secretariat on Tuesday in an Extra-Ordinary Meeting started via video conference, to deliberate on the COVID-19 Pandemic and supplement containment strategies to prevent and stop any further spread in the region.
 
The meeting comes in the wake of confirmation of corona virus disease cases in four out of six EAC Partner states.
 
Some EAC Partner States have suspended all face to face meetings, closed all schools and tertiary training institutions, their air space and borders.
 
They also started quarantining people arrival for travelers from high risk countries due to the outbreak.
 
EAC Secretary General Ambassador Liberat Mfumukeko said ‘we are suspending all rental and use of EAC facilities and that meetings will be via video conferencing or other available virtual facilities as much as possible.
 
The Secretary-General encouraged the public to be vigilant, follow recommended hygiene including washing of hands with soap and water and sanitizing one’s hands.
 
The EAC Regional Coordination Committee will also trained airport staff; baggage handlers; immigration and other key staff in the Partner States on COVID -19 prevention and control measures.
