IGAD Executive Secretary, Workneh Gebeyehu urged all governments of member states and citizens to remain vigilant and closely adhere to the health and safety measures recommended by the authorities.
He disclosed that IGAD has established a special taskforce on COVID-19 that is collecting the latest information, learning and sharing best practices, developing policies and developing additional emergency response plans.
Gebeyehu said the taskforce is also providing regular updates through various communications platforms including staff E-Mail, the IGAD Website, Twitter and Face book accounts.
He also revealed that at the Headquarters, IGAD have put in place robust continuity plans that will allow us to continue working with partners to serve fellow citizens and the Member State governments.
The Executive Secretary said they are actively reviewing the response measures to keep up with the developments in the COVID-19 situation and to adjust IGAD policies.
He encouraged IGAD employees who may have been exposed to the corona virus or is feeling ill to stay home.
Executive Secretary revealed that IGAD is putting in place flexible work policies that will facilitate the method of working.
