The Voluntary Civil Society Taskforce on Implementation of the Peace Agreement welcomes the formation of the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity.
It said this appointment and subsequent swearing-in of the cabinet ministers bring to function, an important component of implementation of the revitalized deal.
The Taskforce calls on RTGoNU to finalize formation of state governments and reconstitute the Transitional National Legislature without further delay.
It commended the opposition and Former Detainees for timely submission of their lists of nominees for the national legislature, to the National Constitutional Amendment Committee.
The Taskforce urged the rest of the parties to equally submit their respective lists of legislative nominees to the Committee.
The Taskforce notes with concern, the lack of adequate and transparent consultations, especially with the National Democratic Movement from the South Sudan Opposition Alliance and the Other Political Parties on the allocation of ministerial portfolios and appointment of ministers. These parties released statements questioning these processes.
The Taskforce encourages transparent dialogues and consensus in decision making among the parties in a manner that does not undermine and bulldoze any party.
It said appointment of women and youth in the government cabinet is another welcomed development in the formation of this new unity government.
The Taskforce said the ratio of female ministers falls below the 35% threshold stipulated in the R-ARCSS and amounts to willful violation of this agreement.
It urged President Salva Kiir Mayardit and leaders of all parties to the accord to ensure honest compliance with the provision on the 35% affirmative action.
This should be strictly observed in the appointment of other constitutional posts including governors and legislators.
The Taskforce expressed disappointment on women leaders in political entities who exert no efforts to ensure that the agreed 35 percent is strictly implemented.
