Director of Rumbek Vocational Educational Training Center Michael Matur Amuor urged local farmers to engage in short term crops that can help people harvest food in few months.

He advised farmers to start preparing their lands as rainy season approaches to begin with onset of rain, Good News Radio reported.

Amuor warned farmers against burning of gardens, saying the remains are sources of manure and natural fertilizers.

He appealed to NGOs supporting agriculture in the state to give more training to local farmers on the importance of land preparation, short term crops and soil conservation.

The director was speaking to Good News Radio in Rumbek.
