President Kiir witnesses swearing in of revitalized cabinet

President of the Republic Salva Kiir Mayardit is Monday witnessing the swearing into office the cabinet of revitalized transitional government.
 
According to announcement on South Sudan broadcasting Corporation the oath taking is to be conducted at 11: 00 by Justice Chan Reec Madut, Chief of Supreme Court of South Sudan.
 
President Kiir last Thursday appointed ministers and ten deputies according to the revitalized agreement.
 
Earlier over the weekend, Global Affairs of the government of Canada welcomed the formation of Transitional Government of National Unity in South Sudan.
 
In a statement, Canada said the establishment of an inclusive government is an important step to national reconciliation and sustainable peace in South Sudan.
 
It said the transitional government paves the way for democratic elections, respect for human rights, as well as economic and social development.
 
Canada recognized the important compromises taken by President Salva Kiir and First Vice-President Riek Machar in this process and hope this marks a step to peace for the people of South Sudan.
 
‘Canada commends the efforts made to empower women, as demonstrated by their greater representation in the new government, even if the numbers fall short of the requirements of the 2018 peace agreement’, read part of the statement.
 
‘Canada is a committed partner of the people of South Sudan, providing our support through development, humanitarian and peace building assistance, including our military contribution to the UN peacekeeping operation in the country, it added.
