Thousands more have fled into the bushes as conflict intensified in Gumuruk and Lekuangole of Pibor Administrative Area, said Medicine Sans Frontiers or MSF on Monday.
MSF Clinical Officer in Pibor Lojana Augustino Ngorok, confirmed that they are seeing many patients of malaria, pneumonia, measles and injuries cases and the wounded are hard to treat and some need referral to Juba for more intensive care.
He said MSF suspended activities in Gumuruk and Lekuangole because they have been abandoned by people fleeing the clashes.
The official said MSF treated over 28 wounded people in the last two weeks in Pibor town healthcare centre, focusing our efforts on addressing the most urgent needs.
Augustino who surveyed displaced people in UN camp near Pibor cautioned that the situation of the over 5,000 estimated people remains disastrous and will get worse as more people come in.
People currently have very limited access to most necessities like water, food, shelter and latrines, he added.
The camp setting is not a conducive environment and is far too congested, lack of hygiene, water and food for the population is really big concern, noted Augustino.
‘The numbers of patients that our team is seeing in Pibor is too low for the magnitude of the current violence and displacement in the area,’ says Ania Zolkiewska, MSF Head of Mission.
‘With limited health services outside of Pibor town, we are very concerned about the ability of civilians and the wounded to access medical care’, the official said.
