Parish Priest of Sts Peter and Paul in Catholic Diocese of Torit appealed to the faithful to continuously renew their attitudes and acknowledge God.
Fr Kamilo Afore told Radio Emmanuel that Christians should not desire human needs which would make them to miss God’s blessings.
He also encouraged the faithful to pray and fast and that change of attitude is important in Christian life.
‘We have the spirit of renewal, the attitude that acknowledges God and acknowledges our human frailty, our human weakness, we can only be strong before God if we do not put God aside or put our human desires ahead of us then we miss the blessing and the graciousness of God. The book of Joel encourages us to come together as an assembly of God to pray, to fast and that our attitudes should acknowledge our needs for God, crucial in Christian life’, Fr. Afore explained.
The parish priest went on to say that the sin we commit against one another and against God, can be forgiven if we seek pardon, because God knows our weakness.
He added that God is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and no sin is greater than the the mercy of God. What each one of us should do is to be humble before God
‘Tear your hearts not your garments our hearts should be hearts that acknowledge God. Our hearts should be so remorseful. The sins that we had against God and against one another, is instruction for us that God knows our own weakness and when come to him we acknowledge then he forgives us. Our God is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, no sin can subdue the mercy of God, but that is not also an opportunity to say God is merciful that is not so we have to be humble enough to work with God’, he noted.
The speaker made the remarks during Ash Wednesday at Saints Peter And Paul Parish.
