Authorities in Magwi County of Torit State have confirmed the killing of a woman by her husband due to misunderstanding and influence of alcohol.
Speaking to Radio Emmanuel, Magwi Commissioner Otto David Remson, says the man and his wife have always been quarrelling with one another after taking alcohol.
Too much consumption of alcohol worsens family relationship in the area forcing others break apart.
He adds that such incident has not been happening before.
‘This incident happened three days ago whereby a man killed a woman in Magwi Payam, the central Payam of my County. There was a misunderstanding has always been happening between the husband and the wife. According to the eye witness, they always drink too much alcohol in the family. You know, when you are always fighting, you become a problem to the neighbours. Neighbours are tired of their fight and they did not even pay attention that they were going to fight to the extent of killing the other’, says the commissioner.
Remson says the suspect has been apprehended and is currently under custody waiting for trials.
‘I think immediately when the case reached us through the area, first of all we have to send our police, the personnel went to the area, investigated and the man was arrested and apprehended to the custody. Some of the neighbours were picked up to answer some questions because there must be an alarm from the late woman before she was killed and the investigation is going on’
He says the government is working hard to restrict and implement laws regulating alcohol consumption in the area.
Remson calls on the local population to reduce over consumption of alcohol for healthy living.
‘This time we are serious about the consumption of alcohol and the issue of Marujuana, sometimes called Bangi in Arabic so this is the worse so far in the area whereby the result is in so many ways. You know, when taking alcohol, you feel like killing and fighting is not something hard. You just fight so those things happen. But it is the government to look into it now to control that the source of that problem must be restricted because we know alcohol is the one influential to this fact’
Biomed Central or BMC public health research states that Alcohol use is a major public health problem with vast implications for poor and war-torn due to traumatic and mental distress among citizens.
