A joint meeting between Kupera County youth and cattle keepers from Jonglei State on Wednesday found that herders reared their animals on farm lands and destroyed crops which became a major concern, according to Emmanuel Khamis Richard Luka Kupera Commissioner.
He said one of the issues was the existence of criminal elements, which go to steal people’s property of local community and other local members go to disturb the cattle keepers.
The meeting formed a follow up committee and agreed that the resolution will remain confidential until the second follow up meeting, the commissioner clarified.
Khamis said there is a free interaction between the local communities and the cattle keepers as the herders have been coming seasonally to the area to graze their animals since 2010.
The commissioner spoke on Thursday in Kupera County of Yei River State.
