Tonj State Police Commissioner has confirmed that two women have been raped by gunmen at night in Amethcok Payam.
The victims include a mother of 45 years old and her breastfeeding daughter of 25 years, says police commissioner Nhial Nhial Machol.
He says while the women are in Tonj Civil Hospital receiving treatment, investigation is ongoing to arrest the culprits.
The Police Commissioner says security and protection of civilians is a collective responsibility of both the government and the community.
He urges the entire community to cooperate with the state authorities by reporting criminal activities to protect civilians across the state.
