Acting Medical Director of Yei State Hospital Joseph Malish on Tuesday said the World Cancer Day is meant for awareness against the disease globally.
He explained that the day is commemorated to recognize the union of international cancer to understand the importance of knowing about the disease, Radio Easter reported.
The medical doctor mentioned that reducing smoking of cigarettes, alcohol consumption, regular exercise and eating healthy food in order to lessen chance of gastric and breast cancer as the awareness against the disease.
He said through the awareness people will be able to know the risk factors of the disease and play a role in reducing cases of the disease.
Malish stressed that cancer is not a contagious disease, but sometimes spread through genetic sociability.
Unhealthy drinking of alcohol increase the risk, developing liver and other cancer, he added.
The medical director cited that cancer is only curable if detected at early stages.
