Maridi Civil Society Forum demands safe and immediate release of three civilians abducted by an armed group at Affa village, Mambe County of Maridi State.

The forum explained in a statement on Friday that a vehicle travelling from Juba to Maridi came under armed attack in Affa village at about 8 o’clock in the morning of January 27, 2020.

It said ‘the unidentified armed attackers shot and injured two people and abducted three others’.

The Forum condemns this unfortunate attack on civilians and calls on this armed group to refrain from causing harm.

It says civilians anywhere in South Sudan do not deserve hostilities from any armed group.

Maridi Civil Society Forum clarifies that no civilian is a threat to any armed group and such attacks must come to an end.

It calls for guarantees of safe and free movement of civilians throughout the country.

Maridi Civil Society Forum appeals to the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism to investigate and report on this incident and the identity of the attackers.

It says the region and the international community should stop any armed group from causing harm to civilians in South Sudan.
