Abyei should top the post referendum talks between the SPLM and the NCP because the region is a source of tension.
This is the view of Lawrence Korbandy who heads the Human Rights Commission in South Sudan.He told SCR News that Abyei might cause a regional war if the issue is not resolved.
Mr. Korbandy said the citizenship issue should be given priority as well so that people in the north and in the south do not become stateless.
He noted that both parties should use the international procedures to agree on the citizenship issue like giving people the option to choose where to live.
Post-referendum talks are still underway between the SPLM and NCP and Abyei and citizenship are hot issues.
