A domestic observers network reported some troubling incidents during the referendum process including intimidation of its staff and continued campaigning during polling.

Edmund Yakani, who coordinates the Sudan Network for Democratic Elections (SuNDE) said observers were denied access to some information adding that the isolated incidents limited the observers while carrying out their roles.

Mr. Yakani added that campaigning in and around referendum centres was the most common incident reported by SuNDE observers.

He added that unauthorized security personnel were seen in some polling centres in White Nile, Southern Kordofan and Upper Nile states.

SuNDE confirmed that these drawbacks did not affect the truth of the process which was characterized by a high degree of transparency and integrity in line with international standards.

SuNDE worked with the Sudanese Group for Democracy and Elections (SuDGE) in Northern Sudan.
