Fifty one untrained primary school teachers are undergoing professional teaching training in Torit municipality.
Radio Emmanuel quotes AVSI program officer for education Daniel Oduho Alex saying the training aim is to introduce participants to the teaching profession.
‘The in-service training that has been taking place here in Torit volunteers has not been included. We want to introduce them so that if they are recruited to be full teachers the government may take them for more training after they have basic concept. So we want to give them this basic knowledge so that they will be able to give a quality education while they are still aspiring to go ahead with their profession as teachers’ he explains
Oduho explains after the training, participants will be able to know the scheme of work, lesson planning and teachers code of conduct.
According to the main facilitator similar training will be extended to other untrained teachers in the counties.
‘In January I think we will be going to Lopa to train the teachers there. Remaining Magwi and Nimule we shall also go there by next year if there is need and if teachers are not professional then it will impact the children negatively,’ he adds
The program officer mentions that his organization is aiming to improve the quality of education in the state through provision of training to teachers.
The five days training will conclude on Friday in Torit.
