The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement or SPLM in Torit State office launches a general cleaning campaign under the theme ‘Keep South Sudan clean’.
Speaking to Radio Emmanuel, the Secretary General Claudio Silliman Liling says the campaign is a national issue that was launched in juba on Saturday under the same theme.
He urges citizens to take part in the cleaning exercise because a clean environment promotes good health.
‘We are trying to see that our state should be kept clean. It t was started on Saturday in juba by the national government under the theme Keep South Sudan clean, that is what we are trying to stand in solidarity with our people, we are also asking the people to come together and start doing some cleaning. We want to put up dustbins in our state because we need to have a clean environment, it is very important because it’s for healthy reason, all the communities have started and they have done cleaning, you need to clean the environment around you so as to prevent diseases’, the Secretary explains.
A resident of Malakia, Martha Ihure says the cleaning should mark the beginning of living in safe environment in Torit.
She encourages citizens to forget their differences and carry on with the campaign to keep the country clean.
‘We want our South Sudan to be clean especially Torit should be clean. This should be done all over the country not only in the towns. Let us leave everything behind, now we are for cleaning, we don’t want problems again, let us now handle brooms, hoe and slashes so that our country can be clean,’ Martha adds.
A businessman Abdallah Aziz says cleanness should not only be carried in public places and the markets, people at home should also participate in this exercise.
He urges officials and local chiefs to sensitize the communities to slash grasses around homes.
‘The cleanliness should not only be within the market, it’s supposed to be done within the whole area, I want the officials and chiefs to inform citizens to cut all the grass near homes. Every area in the state should be cleaned. People at home should not wait to be told to clean their surroundings’, he stresses
