South Sudanese in Juba are pleading to the leaders to remember their struggle to independence and give them a chance to enjoy peace like other people around the world.
They are responding to the formation of the unity government expected to be formed next week on November 12.
Speaking to CRN the citizens say the people voted for independence so that they have freedom in South Sudan.
One of the citizens who did not mention his name for security purpose regrets that the lives of many South Sudanese are in danger because of insecurity. He calls for peaceful formation of the unity government in November 12.
‘People voted for independence thinking that the leaders would lead them very well, unfortunately, they are the ones butchering people. Making us fear throughout the night, so our lives are really in big trouble. We request that they give us the chance to leave like other people around the world. People are preparing for November 12 and some are buying food, keeping their foods in houses because of the fear of unknown. Some are planning to travel before November 12. And those who cannot afford food and those who cannot even afford travel, are very sad because they do not know what is going to happen”, says the citizen.
Another person who identifies himself as Samuel calls on the leaders to recall their struggle to independence.
‘We have been crying for the independence of the republic of South Sudan since forties, but now we have achieved and still we go back to kill. We are talking of our people who died for the struggle of this country and if really people can think about them properly, because they really fought for the independence of this country. I wish that let these people recall and let them come and stay peacefully without any war because I don’t want our people to die again. Allow us to enjoy like other countries. This is really bad and it is really shameful. Now like other countries, they will begin to laugh at us because they will ask that all in all, we have gained independence and why are we still killing ourselves?, asks Samuel.
He calls for unity to develop the country.
‘You see, tribes are looking at other tribes, they begin to hate other tribes, they think that now if this happens [war], then we are going to finish these tribes, which are not good. This country is ours. God has given us this nation. Let us come and stay together and begin to build our country. Despite of all these diversities, but still we are one! Let us come and build our own country. They themselves [the leaders] are here, but their families are outside. In case of any conflict, it is only going to affect those who are within while they don’t care because their children or their families are not here”. They are outside’.
Another citizen prays that the unity government will be formed peacefully.
‘I have heard of people saying stock enough food in the house at least for ten days, like this thing [formation of unity government] is not going to be peaceful. But of course everyone has an opinion of what they think about 12 November. But I believe that God, who is Almighty above everyone who can think negative or positive, Has the final say about that day’.
According to the agreement, the unity government is expected to be formed on November 12 but Dr Riek Machar requested extension of the period to resolve the outstanding issues first.
