Returnees who arrived in Torit two days ago from Northern Sudan are being transported to their home destinations.

John Odongi Simon heads the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Eastern Equatoria. He told Emmanuel Radio that the returnees will receive a three-month package of food after registration and then they will be taken home.

Returnees from Magwi County have already left Torit this morning.

Mr. Odongi said the returnees who have arrived are from different parts of Eastern Equatoria.

He added that the state faces logistical challenges and does not have enough transit accommodation for the returnees.

Mr. Odongi complained that some returnees gave incorrect information about their destinations and the state has to make new arrangements to transport them.

Some returnees spent the night in the open air in front of Torit County office and were still there up to this morning.

International Organization for Immigration (IOM) in collaboration with UNHCR and the government is assisting returnees from Northern Sudan.

Eastern Equatoria received 750 returnees from the North in the last two months.
