At least 32 business and humanitarian vehicles along Magwi Torit road are stuck and some fell sideways due to poor roads.
The vehicles were carrying commodities, fuel and food to Torit.
Speaking to Radio Emmanuel on Friday Stephen Ihude Oduho, state director general of commerce, investment and mining says continuous flooding and heavy rain has affected roads linking counties to the state capital.
He adds some vehicles are unable to pass due to road blockage, forcing many trucks to spent two to three weeks on the road.
‘One fuel truck has fallen down and blocked 32 other trucks making it difficult some of them have been stuck there for a week more. This is accumulating more problems and these vehicles belong to various traders who bring various goods to Torit market. Some of the goods are perishable and other vehicles belong to NGOs who are doing humanitarian work,” he adds.
The director worries that price of commodities will keep rising as a result of poor roads in the state.
He calls on Government and humanitarian agencies to urgently intervene in the matter.
Ihude reveals that his office received 410,520 South Sudanese pounds as contributions for construction of the Torit Magwi road.
He adds the amount is not enough to start the construction.
Torit has been facing shortage of sugar and maize flour among others for the past three weeks.
The speaker made the statement to radio Emmanuel on Friday in Torit.
