AVSI, a charity Italian organization in Torit on Saturday organized inter-school debates to build learners’ leadership skills to be better future managers.
Oduho Daniel Alex, area education officer for AVSI, says the exercise is to allow and prepare young ones to leadership positions.
He encourages learners to have trust and confidence among themselves.
‘It is not easy to bring a leader, it is not easy to make a leader, so that is why it is very important to start like this, a leader is someone who can speak in the public, and it is now the beginning where you are beginning to exercise yourself to speak in the public so that when you become a leader tomorrow you will not get scared, you will not shake, you will be bold all the time you will speak with confidence. You will trust yourself and this is the beginning that is why when we talk of leadership tomorrow, it doesn’t mean that just we educate you without bringing you to exercise like this’, he explains.
Oduho calls on the government and education partners to promote debates in both primary and secondary schools in the young nation.
Clement Loboi, Director of Education in Torit County says good leadership skills can only be attain when learners equipped with both written and spoken skills
He advises the learners to commit themselves to education so as to be better leaders when time comes.
‘Now that we have come here my dear children, it is very important for you come here for this debate not really to compete, but to practice so that you should be able to develop your skills both spoken and written and at the same time you will also develop the skill of confidence. Of course in the future when you will be a leader, you will be able to deliver your speech with full confidence so that you also convince the public and the other thing is to improve your spoken language and written so that you will be able to pass your examination very well’, he emphasizes.
