Torit residents are offering several names to the baby girl born on January 9, 2011.

A 19-year old woman called Aneno Susan delivered a baby girl soon after casting her vote at Melekia polling centre, in Torit, the capital of Eastern Equatoria State.

Ms. Aneno started feeling the pains of birth just before casting her vote and officials from the state High Referendum Committee rushed her to the hospital but she delivered in the car.

Mary William Juwa, the outreach officer at the state High referendum Committee, said she told the mother to name her baby Peace while her driver suggested Referendum.

The mother however called the newborn Freedom.

Ms Juwa said the baby will be a great person in Southern Sudan because she waited for her mum to vote before she was born on the historic day.

Most people wanted the baby to be named Referendum.
