Organized forces, including trafic police have arrested over thirty motorbikes and two vehicles without number plats and driving license operating in Torit town.

According to Traffic Police Director, Colonel Mark Taban Quirino, the owners with legal documents have taken theirs. But seven bikes are still at the traffic custody waiting for the owners to present their legal documents.

Colonel Taban says involving military police and national security is to keep law and order, monitor violations and manage any situation that may arise along the way.

‘We are checking. I deployed police personnel from traffic police and this military police and national security. They send two people because I requested them. Bringing this unit is to support us because most of the violations are being carried by military. Military police will handle military personnel as well as national security. We are doing this practice because most of these motor bikes are being stolen from some counties even from Juba when they come to Torit they start operating public means without any document, now three days we have carried consecutively. We have apprehended 30 motorbikes but later others came with their papers they were release’

Colonel Taban quoted traffic Law 2003 saying ‘every rider or driver has to move with license while driving’.

He mentions that many drivers and riders use motorbikes with Logbooks, but without driving permit, resulting to charges.

‘If we find any motorbike without documents, we have to detain that motorbike until when the owner prove that it is his through legal document, like logbook. Others have logbook but the rider does not have driving permit which is not allowed according to traffic low of 2003 because up to now we are still using low of new Sudan. It is effective, anybody using the road has to carry it whenever on duty, when you leave it at home, is a violation. We charge 100 to 250 South Sudanese bounds’, says the traffic police.

Colonel Taban calls for renewal of expired documents at the traffic police office.

He says ‘Those who are having expired licenses, the office can renew and those who have number plates we can also license and issue him logbook, those who have logbook but don’t have driving permit, you have to buy. There is fee in low of traffic because we cannot give you for free and we issue you all documentS such as receipt, and in our office here, we have finance, revenue authority and buy for insurance you have to buy 3,500 for motorbike and vehicle 7000″.

The traffic police officer advises drivers to avoid consuming alcohol while driving to reduce accident.
