The Minister of Information in Tonj State, William Wol Mayom has denied what he describes as propaganda spread against the Governor over the arrest of a social worker.

Speaking to Don Bosco Radio, the Minister says the arrest of comrade Maker Goor is connected to the Commissioner of revenue authority over the insult posted on social media.

‘The one, who arrested Comrade Maker, is the one who has opened a case against them. So the first thing that is done is the opening of the case, taking out the petition. Then follows by the arrest warrant by the prosecutor general and those powers are clearly indicated in the constitution of South Sudan. Also the judiciary code of conduct. Whenever you want to arrest someone, you have to follow the procedures. So how did the governor of Tonj State go to the police and open the case and take petition and take the arrest warrant? All are just political motivated rumours’, says the minister.

He says there is nothing that concerns the Governor.

Wol explains that ‘It is between him and the commissioner of revenue authority that will deal with this case until later on is verified by the court. So our evidence is not for the Tonj State government, but it is between Comrade Angok and Comrade Maker, when they will later on be justified by the rule of law’.

The minister advises young people to avoid posting unnecessary information on social media before verification because it leads to persecution in accordance with the law.

‘My message to the young people of South Sudan particularly in Tonj State, we know that the habit of taking information to the social media, insulting an innocent person is harmful because we have laws. Those laws verify the information and later if it is found, it can lead to prosecution by the rule of law’, Wol warns the youth.
