The Female Journalists’ Network in partnership with UNESCO and Reconstituted JMEC is expected to hold a workshop in Juba on strengthening dialogue for peace and reconciliation in South Sudan.
The two-day seminar starting on Thursday aims at strengthening the capacity of local peace actors and dialogue platforms including community groups, leaders and the media.
The meeting is anticipated to identify best practices and scaling up on the processes in order to detect, mitigate and prevent communal conflicts.
During the workshop, attention will be placed on the media and its potential to offer platforms for non-violent dialogues and act as an outlet to present different views, initiate discussions and dialogue.
The workshop will help South Sudan media, community leaders, women and youth groups support peace and reconciliation by providing non-violent alternatives.
Topics to be discussed include understanding key concepts in conflict resolution and peace building and mapping conflict and how they are triggered and how to address them.
Triggers of conflict with special attention on hate speech is one of the topics to be tackled on the first day.
Another subject to be touched is the status on the implementation of the peace agreement, challenges faced and what role could different groups play.
The second day will witness a panel discussion on roles of leaders, media, civil society organizations, women and youth groups in mitigating conflicts and promoting peace in South Sudan.
The conference is expected to end on Friday with recommendations on peace building and implementation of the Agreement
