A heavy truck belonging to General Pieng Deng Majok was shot by gunmen near Abeer Buma checkpoint on Cueibet-Rumbek road of Western Lakes State.
Abraham Riak who escaped narrowly after his vehicle was stopped says, the incident occurred on Sunday evening, at 8:00 PM, one kilometre away from the checkpoint of Cuei-cok Payam heading to Rumbek town.
He explains to Good news Radio that the gunmen opened fire into the car breaking glasses and fortunately no one was injured.
Riak appeals to the government soldiers to maintain security along the roads to allow free movement of people.
The driver advises those carrying out criminal activities to avoid taking people’s lives.
In a phone interview, Western Lakes State Minister of Information Laat Mathou says he did not get any report from the commissioner of the area concerning the matter.
He however, blames the driver for not reporting the incident to the law enforcement agents for follow up.
He assures drivers that government’s plans are under way to clear still existing illegal checkpoints in the state.
This is the second time passengers have been attacked on the same location where a motorcyclist suffered the same issue last week.
