JIMMY CARTER PRAISES FIRST DAY OF POLLING

former USA president of USA Jimmy Carter paid a visit yesterday to the Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau. He was accompanied by former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan.

The two leaders are in the country to lead the Carter Centre observation delegation in Juba.

Mr. Carter congratulated the work of the Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau and paid tribute to the orderly and perfect conduct of the first day of polling for the referendum.

On Sudany, the polling was marked by a huge turnout of voters.

Voting will continue until January 15.
