Floods resulting from heavy rains destroyed crops in Chali, Wadaka and Yabus areas of Blue Nile.

Coordination Unit in an e-mail statement told Voice of Peace Radio that the floods completely destroyed crops in some localities.

It added that the rainfall is predicted to continue to be heavy for the rest of the season, which usually lasts until October.

The statement says from June to September 2019, rainy season is forecasted to be above the average.

The Sudan Meteorological Authority and IGAD Climate Prediction and Application Centre also forecasted above average rainfall.

This is likely to result in high levels of flooding in Northern, River Nile, AL Jazeera, Sennar and Blue Nile States.

The floods are anticipated to destroy some crops, cause displacements and increase the prevalence of waterborne diseases during the rainy season, the statement adds.
