Media Authority has condemned any decision to threaten and suppress freedom of expression in South Sudan.
In a press release after a Good News Director was arrested on Wednesday, the Media Authority says it is a violation to interfere with the freedom of expression and the editorial independence of the media organizations.
It says the right to freedom of expression and access to information is a fundamental human right in the transitional constitution.
Media Authority advises any conflicting party to sort out their differences without hindering the press.
It expresses commitment to promote the freedom of expression and the media according to the South Sudan media laws.
Catholic Radio Network or CRN welcomes the release of the Director of Good News Radio of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek.
‘We appreciate the government of Western Lakes State-Rumbek for releasing Marial and we hope no unnecessary arrest of any media personnel will happen again in future. In case of any concern, it should be addressed to the right Media Authorities’, said Ajith.
Marial Deng was detained on Wednesday by the authorities in Rumbek when he was interviewing the former Governor of Western Lakes State.
