DARD facilitates peace consultation meetings in former Rumbek North

Disabled Agency for Rehabilitation and Development or DARD in partnership with OXFAM supported two peace consultation meetings in Meen County of former Rumbek North.
 
The meetings organised by Pakam’s peace committee aimed at addressing recent revenge killing along the road heading to Maper via Meen County roads.
 
Benjamin Laat Mathou, peace committee chairperson says the consultation meetings were designed to help youth to stop road ambush.
 
He said that Lieth youth of Pakam community had an internal conflict with Gak youth that left four people killed and eight others wounded early in May 2019.
 
‘This revenge killing will never bring lasting peace in our state that is why we planned to visit five tribes of Pakam’ he  add.
 
Another peace committee member, Arop Kumbai Dhelbeny also urged all Pakam youth to stop road ambushes and revenge killings that have claimed more lives.
 
He encouraged Pakam community to work hard in their farms and send their children to school for better future of the community.
 
Kerbina Majok Chaath, Meen County Commissioner, appreciated peace committee and partners for intervention in community’s conflict.
 
He promised to work hard with local chiefs to bring lasting peace to the entire community of Pakam.
 
DARD South Sudan with support from OXFAM GB, DANIDA CIV funded project facilitated the peace consultation and sensitisation meetings.
