UNMISS trains civil society on human rights monitoring and reporting

United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS Human Rights Division in Torit trained over 50 civil society actors on reporting, identification and monitoring conflicts related violations rights and dignity.
 
Cornelius Nagbe UNMISS Human Rights officer said the training was to develop mechanisms to address violations in the state, Radio Emmanuel reports.
 
He revealed that the workshop recommended increasing monitoring and reporting violations.
 
Nagbe called for collective efforts of UNMISS and civil society actors to ensure that all forms of human rights abuses are brought to an end.
 
Angelina Bernardino Jacob, Torit State Chairperson for Women Association and a participant said the training equipped them with reporting skills.
 
She called on state leadership to develop land policies to address issue of land disputes.
 
The chairperson called on communities to response to early warning and indicators of conflict.
 
Meanwhile, Ukidimoi Ugura, Torit State Minister of local Government, cautioned law actors to advocate for respect and maintain human rights and dignity for all.
 
He tells participants to report and expose all forms of abuses and crimes committed against humanity for justice to prevail in the state and the country at large.
 
The speakers were speaking during a one day workshop organized by UNMISS Human Right Division in partnership with civil society organization last week.
