Paramount chief urges government to ban Takaya, local alcohol in Torit State

Paramount Chief in Torit West County is calling on the government to stop women from brewing local alcohol in the state known as ‘Takaya’.
 
Takaya is a local drink made up of sugar, water and yeast and that it has negative side effect on human lives.
 
Speaking to Radio Emmanuel, Anthony Ohide Oriaja appeals to the government to restrict sugar transportation to the people in grassroots.
 
He says the local community prefers Takaya to other soft drinks despite the negative impacts on people’s health.
 
Ohide says two women and one man were reported death as a result of taking Takaya.
 
The Paramount Chief says it is everybody’s responsibility to ensure that consumption of alcohol is minimized.
 
Paramount Chief Anthony Ohide was speaking to Radio Emmanuel at Hotel the Ark in Torit on Thursday.
