The High Level Committee for the Ceasefire Agreement between the SPLA and renegade George Athor celebrated the agreement with a ceremony at Malakal.

Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul, who heads the committee, said he was handing the agreement document to signed by George Athor’s rebel group, Voice of Love reported.

Archbishop Deng said that the committee wanted Upper Nile Governor to bless the document because it was negotiated in Malakal.

Archbishop Deng said that the agreement was signed to make sure that the referendum vote should happen in a peaceful environment.

SPLA Maj. General Dau Aturjong, a member of the High Ceasefire Committee, told the two signatories to implement the agreement to success.

Mr. Dau added that it was very important to mind the common interest of the people of Southern Sudan rather than personal interests.

Joseph Majak Dau, Mr. Athor’s representative, appreciated the October presidential pardon and the signing of ceasefire agreement.

The SPLA head of negotiating team, Brig Gen. Michael Majur Aleer, said that the army shall find implementation modalities of the peace agreement.

Mr. Majur added that the ceasefire monitoring team was formed of five officers to implement the agreed provisions and principles.

George Athor rebelled against the Government of Southern Sudan after losing the election for the governorship of Jonglei to Kuol Manyang. He was pardoned by Salva Kiir Mayardit last October.
