The Commissioner of Lafon County in Torit State reports that most of the people have fled their area to neighboring counties and others to Uganda due to alarming food insecurity in the area.
Marko Owar Onam says lack of food has forced a number of people to flee the county on daily basis.
Commissioner Owar says last year’s harvest was not enough to sustain most families in the area.
The Commissioner says the roads linking Lafon to other parts of the State are impassable by humanitarian vehicles delivering assistance to the people.
He pleads to the state and national governments to build roads so that humanitarian agencies can access the suffering population of Lafon County.
According to Commissioner Uwar, unknown armed men abducted one child along Lafon Juba road while the family was escaping hunger on the 18th of this month.
Mr Uwar made the statement in an interview with Radio Emmanuel at SPLM secretariat in Torit on Tuesday.
