Police in Western Lakes State have arrested two men accused of raping a 49 year old woman on Tuesday.
According to police report 12 rape cases have been registered since last year.
Good Radio News quotes Child Protection Officer Matthew Mayom John saying the suspects identified as Mathiang Malual and Malei Meen are currently under detention for further investigation.
He describes the incident as a result of alcohol consumption.
The officer stresses that the rape survivor is receiving treatment at Rumbek hospital and the culprits will be charged in court after three weeks.
The police officer advises young people to stop alcohol abuse and focus on their education for better future.
According to Section 247 of the South Sudan Penal Code, whosoever has sexual intercourse or carnal intercourse with another person against his or her will, commits the offence of rape and upon conviction, shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not exceeding fourteen years and may also be liable to a fine.
