A Consultant with natural resource management working at Wetland International Torit branch is appealing to communities residing along wetlands to evacuate the area.
Fabian Mosila while addressing participants during one day training on wetland management says there are high risk of disease outbreaks and flooding along wetland areas, Emmanuel Radio Reports.
He warns the public against unnecessary disposal of waste products along wetland.
‘Wetlands are very sensitive areas if people have settled there, we encourage them to move away because there is risk of flooding, possibly spread of diseases the wetland ,’ he adds
Consultant Mosila encourages the local population to utilize wetland areas for farming to increased food productions.
Meanwhile state director General of health and environment Dr. Elijo Omoro calls on members of technical working group to exert more effort in managing wetland.
Dr. Elijo adds that proper management of wetlands reduces risk of diseases among communities.
‘I think this is a workshop which I would like you to take seriously you are lucky to be among those who have been selected to be in the management committee in fact it is a new experience we haven’t heard anything before like this we are looking forward to your effort so that we can properly manage our wetlands for the benefits of everybody’
Wetland international in collaboration with Torit state department of environment has trained about 26 participants which includes community leaders, development agencies and Government representative on wetland management in Torit.
During the training a technical working group was form to spearhead wetland management in the state.
