A group of Equatoria youth on Friday visited Himodonge Memorial shrine and Fr Saturlino Ohure Mausoleum among other historical sites in Torit to pay tribute to the heroes of Torit mutiny.
Radio Emmanuel quotes one of the youth Dominic Oting saying it is important for the country to document all the histories for future generations.
State Acting Youth President Orupi David Uywek says the visit will help young people to write evident history about the Torit mutiny.
He urges national government to allocate funds to maintain Himodonge memorial and other historical site in the state.
Torit County Commissioner Fermo Peter Isara says over fifty people were buried in the mass grave and were collected from different barracks.
Commissioner Peter complains about lack financial support by the government to maintain the site.
The commissioner regrets that the heroes have been forgotten with no support given to their families.
He adds these were soldiers who initiated the fight for the independence of South Sudan
Himodonge Memorial shrine was found after a group of fighters were massacred and buried in a mass grave about 5 kilometres south of Torit town after they fought against oppressive government in 1955.
