Southern Sudanese will vote almost unanimously for separation in the poll for self-determination due to start within two days.

The Agency for Independent Media (AIM) carried a survey in South Sudan and Khartoum for the last four months to collect the views of voters and 96 percent answered they would vote for separation while four percent said they would mark the circle for union.

AIM director executive David de Dau presented the survey’s results to the press today in Juba.

GoSS spokesperson and Minister for Information Barnaba Marial Benjamin, who attended the presentation, congratulated AIM for the work.

Dr. Marial said the survey would help to prepare the population for the final result of the referendum vote and avoid shocks.

AIM sent 2500 forms to voters in the ten states of South Sudan and Khartoum asking what would be their choice, the reasons for their vote and when they wanted the referendum result to be implemented.

The survey revealed that people will vote for separation to establish a country of their own, control their resources and destiny and develop a sense of dignity and identity.

The majority of participants said they wanted the referendum results to be implemented within three months.

The survey was carried between June 6 and November 15, 2010.
