Amnesty International’s Secretary General urges ‘the Transitional Military Council of the Sudan to immediately withdraw all members of the Rapid Support Forces in streets in Khartoum and other parts of the Sudan.

Kumi Naidoo said in a statement on Friday that the forces must be ordered off the streets and confined to their barracks in the interests of public safety.

‘The senseless killing of protestors must be stopped immediately, and those responsible must be held fully accountable for their dreadful actions’, said the secretary.

Amnesty International is also calling for immediate opening of the internet and social media to allow people of the Sudan access to information and exercise their freedom of expression.

The call followed suspension of the Sudan from the African Union after the Rapid Support Forces led the killing of over 100 protestors over the past three days.
