Leprosy is not a disease from people’s ancestors, but it is a contagious sickness, Laboratory Technician in John Lee Hospital in the department of Triple TB section and Leprosy Control in Tonj state, challenges civilians.
According to Don Bosco Radio, Michael Yai appeals to his counterparts to create awareness on prevention and treatment of leprosy in the state and South Sudan at large.
He urges communities not to reject those who are infected with leprosy because they are part of the society.
Yai adds that nobody is curse with leprosy, but it is a disease transmitted from one person to another.
He urges the citizens to discourage the stigma of leprosy in the community.
The laboratory technician explains that leprosy is a bacterial disease that is caused by micro- bacterium leporine.
He adds that leprosy affects the sensory, monitory and the autonomic nerves.
Yai explains that when the disease affects nerves, a person will lack sensation and therefore lead to inactive body functions.
The technician urges civilians to quickly report to nearby hospitals when symptoms appeared in the body and be ambassadors of protection.
