UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS in its recent survey indicated that many south Sudanese feel safe.

UNMISS Chief David Shearer explains that 70 percent of the respondents reported feeling either very or somewhat safe while 28 percent felt they were not safe.

He adds their surveyors asked people to compare the security situation now to a year ago and 80 percent reported that it was better.

Shearer clarifies that people do feel the security situation is continuing to improve significantly, particularly following the signing of the peace agreement

He pledges that UNMISS is working hard to support efforts to fully implement the agreement by facilitating dialogue in communities across the country.

The Chief notes that they are bringing political leaders together in workshops and forums to build trust and confidence and provide experts to assist the Independent Boundaries Commission and the process of reunifying the armed forces.
