Rumbek National Secondary School is expected to reopen after a sudden closure for nearly a week due to strike.

The strike attracted full attention of the state government.

Four days back, students of Rumbek Secondary protested against the school because the administration failed to respond to their demands.

The students raised concerns that they were not given lesions for some days and asked Academic Affairs Secretary Martin Mabeny to resign.

Mabeny failed to resign resulting to the strike.

Deputy Governor William Koji Kirjok blamed the headmaster, Ustaz Gabriel Malieny Marek for failing to respond quickly to students’ petition until the situation boiled up.

The Deputy Governor also blamed students for violent response to the police force that came to maintain order.

He emphasizes that the students should follow the school rules and regulations.

Koji discouraged learners from listening to music during class hours, saying it was a sign of disrespect to teachers.

The school is expected to be fully operational by Monday, May 13, 2019.
