Intergovernmental Authority on Development’s or IGAD’s security and partners will on Friday launch the study report conducted on ‘disrupting the finances of criminal networks responsible for human smuggling and trafficking’.

The study examines existing trafficking and smuggling networks in the Greater Horn of Africa region.

It will also see mode of operation and how existing anti-money laundering tools and instruments could be used to disrupt these networks.

The research was commissioned by the Research and Evidence Facility and conducted by SAHAN Foundation with support from IGAD and INTERPOL.

The report will start with presentation of its findings and look into establishing a mechanism to foster trust between partners.

It is to promote cooperation among the relevant national and international authorities in countering human smuggling and trafficking and disrupting related illicit financial flows.

The launching ceremony will be held in the presence of high level officials of IGAD Member States, international partners, and other invited stakeholders.

A guest of honor from the government of Ethiopia will officially open the ceremony.
