The rate of tuberculosis or TB cases in John Lee Memorial Hospital of Don Bosco Mission has decreased this month as compared to the previous months, says the lab technician.
Michael Yai says only fifteen patients are currently admitted and they are undergoing treatment for six months.
The Lab technician says early detection and treatment of the killer disease is very important.
He urges citizens to visit the hospital for tuberculosis checkup and other infectious diseases for free services.
TB is a disease caused by bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
The bacteria usually attack the lungs, but they can also damage other parts of the body.
The disease spreads through the air when a person with TB coughs, sneezes, or talks. If anyone has been exposed, is advised to go to the nearest health center for tests.
The symptoms of TB in the lungs may include a serious cough that lasts 3 weeks or longer, weight loss, loss of appetite, coughing up blood or mucus, weakness or fatigue, fever and night sweats.
It is through skin tests, blood tests, x-rays, and other tests to tell someone has TB.
The disease can be deadly if not treated properly.
