The members of South Sudan Civil Society Forum call for renewed commitment and allocation of resources for the implementation of the peace agreement.
In a press statement, it notes with deep concern and displeasure the failure of South Sudanese political leaders, to fully implement the provisions of the peace deal signed last year.
The members are concerned by the slow pace of the implementation to deliver lasting peace to the people of South Sudan.
‘Conflicting statements from the government and opposition groups concerning formation of government of national unity by May 12, 2019 is a dangerous development for the country.’ The statement reads in part.
The Forum recognizes progress made in cessation of hostilities.
It also welcomes IGAD’s decision to convene a meeting for parties to discuss and reach consensus on the way forward.
The CSO recommends parties and stakeholders to extend the Pre-Transitional Period through consensus to allow deliberations on unfinished tasks.
They also call upon the government of South Sudan to fund the implementation process.
