The UN Secretary General says gender equality and womens rights are crucial in bringing lasting to south Sudan.
In a letter read by Anthony Nwapa, Acting Head of UNMISS Torit Field Office, the UN chief calls on South Sudanese to promote human rights and dignity for all.
‘Gender equality and women’s right are fundamental to global progress on peace and security, human right and sustainable development. We can only re-establish trust in institutions with global solidarity and challenge historic injustices and promote the rights and dignity of all’.
Nwapa says most rights in South Sudan have been violated or abused although significant progress in respect to human rights and leadership are realize in some parts of the country.
The Acting UN Head stresses on the need to change the negative attitudes and start a positive way for peaceful transformation.
He calls on citizens to stop harassment and violence against women.
